Terms of Reference
To consider the development and implementation of government social policy and social equity issues including:
- setting of directions in, and reporting, monitoring and auditing of, social and economic policies to respond better to the needs of disadvantaged communities, including Maori and Pacific communities;
- health policy, including mental health and public health issues;
- drug and alcohol abuse issues, including implementing a comprehensive drug strategy;
- disability issues;
- accident compensation issues;
- education policy, including implementing changes in tertiary education;
- skills and training issues;
- capacity building in Maori and Pacific communities;
- income support issues;
- housing;
- settlement and ethnic affairs;
- community and voluntary sector issues;
- senior citizens, retirement income and veterans' issues;
- issues relating to children, women, youth and the family, including proposals for the establishment of a Commission for the Family;
- justice and human rights issues, including victims' rights;
- crime reduction/prevention, policing and corrections issues.
All papers being submitted to the Cabinet Social Development Committee require a statement on gender analysis and a gender impact statement, and consultation with the Ministry of Women's Affairs and, where appropriate, a disability perspective.
